Erick Smith Jr. Talks De-commitment from Middle Tennessee State
Earlier today 3-star WR Erick Smith Jr. de-committed from Middle Tennessee State. Smith had originally committed to the school in early September. He plays for Booker T. Washington and is having a solid senior season with 300 receiving yards, 19 catches, and 2 touchdowns according to MaxPreps.
I had an opportunity to interview Erick and ask him about his decision.
When I asked Erick about what changed in the past couple of months since his commitment to MTSU he told me, his bond with other coaches wasn't as strong as the one with now former WR Coach Austin Silvoy, who was recently dismissed from the coaching staff.
Smith told me since committing he has received offers from Ole Miss and Gardner Webb. Since his de-commitment Florida International and Coastal Carolina reached out to him immediately and have built good relationships with him.
He had a Top 3 of Florida International, Florida State, and Middle Tennessee State before he committed, but now tells me the two frontrunners are Florida International and Coastal Carolina. Smith also added his recruitment is completely open.
According to Erick, he plans on committing by the Early Signing Period (December 16th to 18th) and plans to sign with the school he ultimately chooses. Smith has 30+ offers and the list of schools that want him could potentially grow over the next couple of weeks.
