Duke Lands 3-star RB Eric Weatherly

 


On June 4th the Blue Devils landed the commitment of C/O 2022 3-star RB Eric Weatherly, he is a gifted runner and pass catcher who plays at Bartram Trail High School in Jacksonville, FL. Eric told me he knew he was ready to commit once he went on his visit, he fell in love with everything from the campus to the area to the coaches, so he committed once Coach Cutcliffe said he had the offer. He says he is relieved and excited to finally be committed because he finally found a place he can call home for the next 4-6 years, and now he can just focus on his senior season.

"At Duke they value not only sports but aspects into growing into a better person. As well as having top of the line education" was his response when asked how Duke stood out. Eric also told me his visit went great, how he loved Durham in general and it was amazing to finally see everything and meet everyone in person.

When describing his relationships with the staff, Eric said "I have a really good relationship with the coaches. I have the best relationship with Coach (Calvin) Magee and Coach (Mitch) Singler. I talk to him every week, which was a big factor in my decision as well. He has always been honest and I feel he will not only teach me to be a better football player but also teach me things about life and becoming an adult".

Eric is a physical player who likes to use his speed, and he uses his speed to advantage like Tyreek Hill, however he wants to show that small backs can do everything that big 6ft 220lb backs can do. The coaches told him since he is versatile, he can be used multiple ways at both RB, Slot, and possibly even special teams. Eric is a big fan of the ACC and feels the competition is just as good as it would be in any other conference. With the versatility he brings, he could easily help Duke get more opportunities to score and get an advantage against the other teams.

2022 OT Jake Maikkula Discusses Top Schools

On the 31st, Class of 2022 3-star OT Jake Maikkula trimmed his list of schools from 27 to his Top 8. The schools that made the cut were Kansas State, Missouri, Minnesota, Cal, Virginia, Duke, Colorado, and Nebraska. Jake plays at Valor Christian High School in Littleton, CO and is rated as one of the top players in the state of Colorado. Here are some things that stood out to him about each school on his top list: Missouri- "Incredible facilities and the ability to play in the SEC. I really like the coaches there as well and the area is great. Coach (Marcus) Johnson does an exceptional job developing his players." Cal- "Amazing area and outstanding academics. 3-star OT Leyton Nelson Talks Top 5

    On the 24th, Class of 2022 3-star OT Leyton Nelson named his Top 5 schools, the teams included were Duke, UCF, Miami, Florida, & Utah. He originally planned to make his commitment on July 4th but has since delayed his decision. Nelson plays for Boone High School in Orlando, FL was recently named the 2021 Offensive Line MVP of the Underclassmen Report Orlando.
